Nested Saguaro
Gila woodpeckers and gilded flickers bore nesting holes in saguaros, and the cacti respond by forming boot-shaped pockets of hardened sap inside their trunks. Once the original residents move out, elf owls, purple martins, and other birds move into these desert condominiums.
